CGWF Supports Warden of the Year at Annual Officer Training Event: Each year wardens nominate a fellow warden to be honored as the Warden of the Year. The final selection is made by the Assistant Chiefs and the Chief. The warden of the year for 2010 was Warden Robert Pelzman. In addition to the Warden of the Year, the Foundation joined with the National Park Service to honor Warden Chad Elliott for his unbelieveable effort in tracking and catching a group of deer poachers who were taking deer illegally from Yosemite National Park. Prior winners were Warden Chad Alexander in 2009 and Warden Sean Pirtle in 2008.
In support of the wardens, the Foundation not only provided special awards to each of the above wardens, they also funded the luncheon at the annual event at which the wardens were honored.
CGWF Supports Game Wardens at annual Baker to Vegas Run: In addition to funding scholarships, the Foundation also assists the wardens in other ways. One of the activities the Foundation supports is the annual Baker to Vegas Relay that brings law enforcement teams from around the world. Once again, the CA Game Wardens got the job done!
As expected, the runners gave supreme effort on the course and are all fired up to do it again next year. This is a great event for our wardens and the Foundation is proud to be a supporter.
Wild Justice: Did you see Wild Justice on the NatGeo channel last season? Our California Game Wardens, in the field, doing the job, protecting our precious resources. The crew from National Geographic is with our wardens in Southern California, taping the second season of the show. This is the same crew that films the fishermen on Deadliest Catch. This is an exciting show and if you don't know what our wardens do and why we support them, you need to check it out on National Geographic.
Have you read Mary Carpenter's Executive Report? It's an updated look into the challenges facing our Game Wardens.
